Some good scores were returned this year with most ladies showing an improvement on scores from previous year’s play. The flagship Tidy Towns program has been running for 44 years as an awards program, however this year an entire new concept of star accreditation has been introduced, allowing towns to be recognized on a 1 to 5 star rating. A family affair with husband David Troughton paddling and a number of family members yelling on the sidelines. The 1770 Festival has won the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Zonal Tourism Awards for ‘Most Significant Event”. In 2009 the 1770 Festival was also inducted into the Tourism Hall of Fame for the Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg Tourism Regional Area.
